Interested in what can be done to protect your community’s drinking water, and therefore, your health? Will current land use practices in your community protect future drinking water as your community grows?
If you:
- Are concerned about the future of your drinking water, public health, and safety
- Are interested in learning steps you can take now to protect your community's drinking water
- Want to learn about how local land use decisions can affect drinking water sources
- Want to keep water treatment costs under control? Want to hear ways local Pennsylvania communities have developed protection strategies
- Want to learn about technical and financial resources to protect your water
- Want to hear ways local Pennsylvania communities have developed protection strategies
You are invited to an informative workshop to help drinking water suppliers, municipal officials, watershed groups and residents find out how to safeguard their sources of drinking water. Protection of existing sources of water is the most cost-effective way to protect public health and control treatment costs. Studies have shown that land use directly impacts water treatment costs.
Learn how Pennsylvania’s source water assessments can provide communities with information they need to prevent contamination, make informed decisions about land use, improve raw water quality, enhance emergency response, and involve the public as a partner. The workshop will also include:
- Examples and strategies of source water protection programs across Pennsylvania
- Benefits of protecting drinking water
- Sources of technical and financial support
Assistance is available to help public water systems and communities develop and carry out protection programs from both the PA Department of Environmental Protection and the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania. Information about how to obtain these resources will also be provided.
Organizations that attend will receive a free Source Water Protection Toolkit provided by WREN, packed with helpful information.
